February Play – Generations Apart

Directed by Wendy McDonnell, this play is our festival play, and was adjudicated on the Saturday. This was a good result for the society and set the bar very high for the rest of the Festival. With a excellent debut for FDS from Phillip and a brilliant performance from the usual FDS suspects the performances keep getting better.

Please see the pictures from the play in the Recent Productions page and watch this space in May for the Festival Results, good luck everyone.

ARTHUR ROCHESTER & BRIAN McEWAN

Nearly every year FDS enters a play into the Bromley Theatre Guild’s Full-Length Play Festival. On one of the performance nights a member of GoDA (the Guild of Drama Adjudicators) will attend, assess the production and then, at the end of the play, present a comprehensive critique to both the Society and the audience. But how do they make their judgement? What are they looking for?

Furthermore, how does the Bromley Theatre Guild organise a Play Festival on this scale? What goes into it and what does everyone get out of it?

To answer these questions we were very pleased to welcome to FDS on Tuesday July 7th, Mr Arthur Rochester (Member of GoDA, previous Chairman of the Bromley Theatre Guild – now Vice Chairman) and Mr Brian McEwan (Chairman of the Theatre Guild) as very special guests. The evening proved immensely informative and very amusing as Arthur removed much of the mystique behind the workings of GoDA and Brian brought us fully up to date with the BTG’s plans to increase the number of associated Clubs and further extend inter-club relations and activities.

Our sincere thanks go to Arthur and Brian, firstly for sparing the time to visit us and secondly for providing such a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

MAY 2009 PRODUCTION

Our latest Production was ‘Play On!’ by Rick Abbot and was performed May 14th, 15th & 16th. This hilarious comedy by Rick Abbot told the story of a theatre group trying desperately to put on a play amid all kinds of maddening interference from its author, Phyllis, who revises the script until almost opening night. It was a madcap romp that took the audience on a journey from the shambolic rehearsals, through near disastrous dress rehearsal to the actual performance - where anything that could go wrong did wrong.

Huge congratulations go to Sylvia Addison and her cast & crew for providing our near-capacity audiences with such a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Congratulations too to Trish John & Sue Pemberton-Ladell for doing so brilliantly in their first acting roles.
